ABOUT US

Our History

ARA Electrical has a long and proud history. While the ARA Group was established in 2001, ARA Electrical’s foundations date back to 1975 when one of our founding companies was first established.

Growing by acquiring successful businesses and focussing on providing clients with safety, quality and risk management, ARA Electrical now comprises more than 450 employees across the country who work together to provide true in-house, turnkey electrical solutions.

Timeline

  1978

Bass Electrical Engineering was established in Western Sydney. 

  2001

Bass Electrical Engineering joined the ARA Group. 

Datatech Australia was acquired by the ARA Group, originally established in 1975.

  2005

ADG Electrical was acquired by the ARA Group. 

  2006

Wollongong Electrical Engineering & Excell Control acquired by the ARA Group, both companies originally established in 1982. 

  2008

Transelect Trading as Tony Pollard Electrics Pty Ltd was acquired by ARA Group. Tony Pollard was originally established in 1989 and Transelect was established in 2000. 

  2010

Bass Electrical Engineering Pty Ltd & Wollongong Electrical Engineering Pty Ltd change trading name to ARA Electrical Engineering. 

  2014

Transelect begins trading as ARA Electrical High Voltage Services Pty Ltd (Trading as Transelect). 

Hunter Power was acquired by the ARA Group, originally established in 2004. 

ARA Electrical opened Singleton NSW branch. 

  2016

ARA Group acquired the Poles and Underground business through administration. 

  2018

Sherry Service & Maintenance acquired by the ARA Group, were originally established in 1997. 

Electrical Network Design acquired and operate under ARA Electrical High Voltage Services Pty Ltd.

Our People

Jason Moore

Managing Director

Jason has more than 30 years’ experience in the electrical industry, ranging from hands on construction of electrical and instrumentation systems through to estimating and project management. Jason’s career progression has led him into operational management roles. Before being appointed as ARA Electrical Managing Director in 2020, Jason was the General Manager for ARA Electricals’ Northern, Central and Southern regions which consists of both low voltage and high voltage aspects of the business. Since joining the ARA team in 2010, Jason has focussed on increasing the business’s growth and performance by improving systems and optimising efficiencies. Jason’s strength is forming and building strong relationships with his team and ensuring the business unit is effectively managed.

Adam Shepherd

Director/General Manager – Southern & Central Region

Appointed Director of ARA Electrical in 2020, Adam has 25 years’ experience in the construction industry across Australia. With proven experience in successfully delivering multiple electrical construction projects within the mining, oil and gas, renewable energy and bulk materials handling sectors, Adam is an integral part of ARA Electrical. Adam is knowledgeable in all facets of project management and experienced in project planning / scheduling, procurement, implementing and managing project budgets. He manages many of ARA Electrical’s major projects and has a high regard for safety, client service and communication. He is an experienced leader with excellent management, communication, supervisory and team development skills.

Company Secretary / Chief Financial Officer

David is responsible for leading the ARA Electrical finance and shared services team and has more than 15 years’ experience in finance and commercial operations construction and services industries. David holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree and is a member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand.

Brenden Doolan

General Manager – Newcastle Region

Brenden has more than 25 years’ experience in the electrical industry including low voltage, high voltage, mining and network constructions. During this time, Brenden’s career has progressed from working hands-on in construction, testing and commissioning of electrical projects through to project management. In 2004, Brenden co-established Hunter Power and joined ARA Electrical when ARA acquired Hunter Power in 2014. With a strong company focus, Brenden has helped ARA Electrical grow throughout the Hunter and Mid North Coast regions and has proven ARA Electrical to be one of the leading accredited services providers for all ASP levels (1, 2 and 3).

Switchboard Manufacturing Manager

Mile has had over 14 years’ experience in the electrical industry, with a primary focus in switchboards, sheet metal fabrication and switchrooms manufacturing. Mile’s career started as a humble trade assistant at JBM’s production facilities where he gained hands on experience while studying to become an electrical engineer. Over the years, Mile gained extensive knowledge throughout the business in estimating and project management, and maintains an exceptional focus on product safety, quality, customer service, leadership and team development.

Phil Lowbridge

General Manager J.A. Martin

Phil Lowbridge started with J.A. Martin in 1986 as an apprentice and since that time he has been involved in all aspects of the business. From 2003 to 2017 Phil held the role of Engineering Manager and became the driving force behind J.A. Martin’s switchboard manufacturing capabilities, for which the business is now a recognised leader in the industry. Phil holds an Associate Diploma in Electrical Engineering and has used his knowledge and astute management skills to assemble a dedicated team of engineers that now provide services to both internal & external customers. In mid 2017 Phil moved into the role of General Manager for J.A. Martin and continues in this role, since J.A. Martin was acquired by ARA Electrical.

Group HSEQ Manager

Steve’s expertise in safety, quality and environmental management has been instrumental in the success of the organisation’s compliance management approach throughout the ARA Group. Steve has more than 25 years’ experience in HSEQ management and he brings this depth of knowledge to the Group.

Nathan Murray

Engineering Manager – Southern, Central & Northern Regions

An experienced engineer in both transmission and distribution levels, Nathan has been working in the NSW electrical industry for more than 20 years. For the past 13 years, Nathan has been in senior leadership roles at Transelect / ARA Electrical in areas including electrical network asset management and planning, electrical design and maintenance, and business operational planning. He is responsible for strategic client relationships and project management in the Southern, Central and Northern regions.

Darrell Milne

Branch Manager – Singleton

With 30 years’ experience in the electrical industry, Darrell has vast experience in supply authority, privately-owned systems coal mining systems, and high voltage electrical systems. Darrell’s high voltage electrical equipment construction experience including substations, underground reticulation and overhead distribution systems managing all aspects from initial estimation through to commissioning and energisation. Darrell’s career progression has led him from an overhead line worker apprentice to branch manager. Darrell’s strengths lie in project management, building and maintaining client relationships, people management and financial management.
